Putting your meetup on Luma
We use Luma for all sign-ups: it handles registrations, payment and the guest list. There is nothing to install and it takes about ten minutes.
-
Create a Luma account
Go to luma.com and sign up with your email address or your Google account. There is nothing to pay: a free account does everything you need for a meetup, including paid tickets.
-
Create your event
Click "Create Event". Fill in the name, the start and end time, and the address of the location. Put the actual address in, not just the town, because Luma turns it into a map people can open on their phone.
-
Add a good photo
The cover is the first and often the only thing people see as they scroll past the calendar. A photo of the place or of a previous meetup works better than a graphic. Landscape format, roughly twice as wide as it is tall.
-
Write down what people need to know
Be specific: from what time people can arrive, what is included, what to bring, whether there is power and water, and whether a campfire is allowed. The more honest the description, the fewer questions you get later. There is an example below you can copy.

Three relaxed days among the (baby) alpacas in green Heeze, just south of Eindhoven. Dive into the swimming pond, rinse off under the outdoor shower and end the evening around the campfire. There is plenty of room in the meadow for water games, playing around or simply a good chat. This edition is hosted by @Perry, who is sharing his parents' place with us 馃檶 What to expect: 馃強 Swimming pond 馃毧 Outdoor shower 馃挦 Meadow for water games 馃敟 Campfire Practical: 馃搷 From Friday 15:00, we head off around 12:00 on Sunday 馃殣 Room for 15 vans 馃攲 No power on site, come self-sufficient 馃毣 Toilet and water are available What to bring: your own van, food and drinks, and a chair for by the fire. Fancy running something yourself, a workshop, game or session? Let us know, anything goes! This edition is free. You sort your own food and drinks. Let's go offline, Ramon, Silke and Rick
Why this one works
- Start with the place, not the organisation. People want to know where they are going.
- Put the times in. From when can people arrive, and when does everyone head off?
- Mention how many spots there are. Then people know whether to hurry.
- Be honest about what is missing. No power or no shower is fine, a surprise is not.
- Sign off with who you are. A name at the bottom turns it into an invitation instead of an announcement.
-
Set the price and the number of spots
Under "Tickets" you set the price per van. Also fill in the maximum number of spots, usually the number of vans that fit on the ground. Free is fine, but do switch registration on, otherwise you never know who is coming.
-
Submit it to our calendar
Go to luma.com/vanlifevrienden and click "Submit Event" at the top right. Pick your own event from the list. We get a notification and approve it.
-
Done
Once it is approved, your meetup appears in the calendar on this site automatically and everyone following the calendar gets a notification. There is nothing else you need to send us.
Rather have us look along?
You can also add us as a host on your event. Then we can read along, polish the description and see the sign-ups when you are away for a bit. Open your event, go to the Hosts section and add rick@uncode.nl.
That is not required. If you would rather do it all yourself, submitting it to the calendar is enough.
Stuck?
Send us a message. Not sure what price is reasonable, or doubting the description? Rick and Tim are happy to look before you publish.
